Optimising Internet Service Provider Networks
Carriers and service providers are working today in a highly competitive environment. The customer has multiple choices for access

cable, DSL, satellite, fixed-wireless IP, hosting and wholesale - and many more when selecting his data centre provider. And switching providers is easy.

In addition, many carriers have made huge investments in network infrastructure, such as access and backbone networks, and find themselves with decreasing revenues due to competition.

There Are a Ton of Companies Providing Internet Service Today – Which One Is the Best?

Attempting to select an internet service provider can either be a daunting task, or a relatively simple one, depending on how you go about it. After all, depending on where you live, you could have ten or more of them to choose from. What’s a consumer supposed to do; signup with each one of them for a month to test them out in order to know which firm will best suit your needs?

That certainly could be one solution, but would it be the best solution? Most people would believe that it would not be cost effective or a timely proposition to undertake. However, if you absolutely positively must have the very best internet service provider, doing it that way would be the only way you could be 100% positive that you made the proper selection.

Most people believe that has to a better way of going about choosing an internet service provider, and there is. What you should do instead, is to ask either your friends or neighbors who they use, and what has their experience been like?

By going about it this way, you should be able to obtain many unbiased assessments of the company’s that you have to select from. Without question, you will defiantly hear everything that they do not like about the companies.

This can range from their prices being too high, the lack of customer service that they provide, or the fact that their servers go down all of the time. With any luck, you will also be able to get positive feedback.

Each and every family will have different needs when comes to an internet service provider. One could have a work at home mom, who does teleconferencing on the internet all the time. For this family, they are really going to need a high speed service, whose downtime is next to nothing.

The next family could spend only a few hours a week on the internet reading the news, or catching up with their friends by emailing them. Obviously in this instance, cost should be the number one consideration, since almost any internet package would do the job.

When it comes to selecting the perfect internet service provider, there is no one right answer for each and every consumer. What you should do is to make sure you check around and see what everybody else is using, and attempt to determine if that company could also meet your needs.

Tips On How To Choose A Satellite Internet Service Provider

Satellite internet access is one of the ways that you can have a broadband internet connection that will allow you to surf the web at high speeds. But not only that, it’s also the only broadband internet connection that is able to be portable and taken where ever you want within the northern hemisphere.

This is because, unlike cable and DSL. internet connections, satellite internet access is not dependent on physical lines or cables in order to transmit the data. Instead, the internet data is transferred to a network of satellites orbiting high above the earth in our atmosphere where it is then redirected back down to earth and received by those who have the equipment necessary to decode it and display it on their computer. So as long as you have an unobstructed view of the southern sky anywhere within the Northern Hemisphere, you most likely will be able to receive satellite internet services.

But how do you decide on which internet service provider to use? Here are a few guidelines to help you make your decision:

1. One of the first considerations is what equipment is provided by the company when you sign up, and what equipment will you have to purchase on your own? This can be an important consideration, as some satellite internet service providers can charge a significant amount for the initial equipment needed to get started.

2. Another important consideration is how fast and reliable their internet service is. It would be a good idea to find out not only how fast the download speeds are, but also how fast you can upload data to the internet, especially if you tend to work with large files. Also be sure to check on their reliability percentage record to get an idea of how consistent you can expect their service to be.

3. It would be good to find out whether or not you can connect more than one computer at a time to their service, and if so how were those connections made? For instance, will it require you to set up a wireless network in order to connect multiple computers to the same terminal?

4. Before you sign a contract be sure that you understand how long the contract will be in force, and if there are any penalties that you will have to pay for canceling their service before the contract expires.

5. Also don’t forget to ask about technical support. How often it is available? For instance, is it available 24 hours a day, or only during certain hours of the day? And what kind of support is it? Is provided in person over the telephone, or just online?

How to Deliver Next Generation Internet Services To Highrise Buildings

Residents living in high rise buildings, condominiums or apartment blocks have an advantage. Unlike people who live in garden style or single building homes, unit owners in tall buildings can conceivably access internet speeds much faster and more reliable than traditional commercial services. How is this so?

The Advantage of High Rise Living

The layout of a high-rise MDU is ideal for installing next-generation internet services. This is because it contains lots of separate unit owners located together in a relatively confined area. In this environment, users can share access to the same hardware resources that make ultra-fast download and upload speeds possible.

This is a system that cannot currently be implemented in separate individual buildings. The reason is one of equipment and cost. For example, to install hardware capable of delivering ultra-fast speeds to a single user in a single building, it would cost that home owner, or the service provider, thousands of dollars. This is would makes the process too expensive per head and is why commercial internet service providers still haven’t attempted this level of service and are unlikely to for some time yet.

In an MDU environment, however, because every user access point is located close by, residents can share the same hardware resources. This means that the return on investment is much more attractive and makes the project more commercially viable.

Why Enterprise-class?

An ultra-fast internet network built in an MDU is effectively ‘enterprise class’ because it utilises the same networking technology adopted by many of the world’s largest corporations. Corporate organisations rely heavily on high-speed data transfer between sites for productivity and competitive advantage and therefore invest a lot of money in the efficient operation of their networks. This means the installation and management of carrier-grade equipment.

When the MDU ISP installs the same technology into a residential environment, they are effectively building a carrier-grade system. That means faster and more reliable data traffic transfer with speeds far superior to anything else available commercially.

The Switched Network

Part and parcel of ultra-fast internet service delivery is the construction of ‘switched networks’. A switched network allows superior download and upload speeds to each unit because it adopts a P2P (point to point) topology. This is where each unit in the property gets a dedicated line straight into the internet backbone.

This is in contrast to more traditional internet delivery method where commercial providers build point to multi-point (p2mp) systems. While p2mp delivery methods are cheaper to build they are neither as fast nor scalable as a switched network.

Naturally, while a switched network is much better than a point to multi-point network for internet delivery, it is not cheap to build. The compatible switches, routers, cabling and additional hardware needed cost tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of dollars to purchase and install. This is why a network like this can only profitably work in an MDU environment where ROI can be guaranteed over a number of years. The benefit of a switched internet system, however, is that it can scale alongside technology advances and will still meet consumer bandwidth demands long into the future.

Internet Service Providers to Change IP

Most Internet service providers (ISP) have made it part of their package to change IP. The Internet Protocol address, or the IP address, of a computer is that computer’s unique address in the online network. And in offering online security and privacy to its customers, the Internet service providers have gone on to use dynamic IPs instead of static IPs.

In your quest to choose an Internet service provider for your home computer or your office connection, you should consider the type of IP address that the service is providing. The recommended one of the two would by the dynamic IPs.

Let us first be familiar with the two types of IP addresses. The first is the static IP, which is assigned to the computer by the network. This address does not change whenever we connect to the Internet. The settings of your computer will remain the same and intact, allowing the computer to connect to the Internet and get data faster.

In contrast to the static IP address, the dynamic IP address is allocated by a router, and it uses DHCP, or Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. The DHCP allows for the allocation of an IP address to your computer when you connect to the Internet. It picks up the allocated IP address from a pool of IP addresses available, and every time you connect to the Internet you will have a different IP address. Most Internet service providers use this for their customers. Not all, though, and we have to know what kind of address system the Internet service providers are running on.

As stated above, dynamic IPs are the preferred one of the two. They were made to change and go to another computer user, giving another user that IP address. Your IP will also will be a different one the next time you log onto the Internet. It’s a change “wheel” going on with dynamic IPs, and it is an advantage for us. The change in IP leads to a hack-proof system, as it will give a hacker or any malicious attacker a hard time to get to your data when your address is always changing.

But, of course, static address is also commonly used. Many businesses prefer to run a static IP because of the data that they want to give to the customers they have visiting their website. There’s also the issue of the business employees working in various locations but needing to connect to the company’s data. This would require static IP. Among businesses and companies, the static IP running system is much more in demand.

Electronic performance support systems (EPSS)

The level of technology has really grown to higher levels which have seen the elearning development of some of the most sophisticated technologies. There are however some computerized tools which some claim to be performance support system but they are normally not. There are some features which any program should have for it to become an electronic performance support system.

An EPSS can be said to be a computer-based program that is meant to improve the worker productivity through the creation of on-the-job access to some of the integrated information, learning design & experience and advice as well. It could be therefore be described as an electronic system which is computer-based which is meant to provide the employer with a whole lot of information, guidance, advice and any assistance that the employer could be looking out for.

The purpose of the EPSS are generally to be able to help people in performing some tasks, assist in getting some information from the databases and being able to present information in various forms which could range from video, audio, text, image or even mere data. However, for a good EPSS to be able to carry out its functions is by having some desired attributes such as follows:

The system should be computer-based which is normally implied by the electronic part of the name. This is what enables the greater scope of the faster usage since you can be able to get reach of a wide range of information from a single location. The system should also be able to provide the required access to the discrete and specific information. This means that the system should have the necessary tools to be able to allow the accessibility of such information. The system should be controlled by the worker who would be in need of getting the required information. The system should also allow anyone to be able to use it with minimal prior training. The procedure to get information should be easy enough for anyone to be able to get the needed information. The EPSS should also be easily updated in order to keep the information updated.
